Lucky FABB 2013 Day One

never have i ever been so overwhelmed with excitement, knowledge, pretty faces, and most importantly inspiration. i mean i was breathing the same air as brandon holley, kelly osbourne, hillary kerr of who what wear, elle and blair fowler of elle and blair, emily schuman of cupcakes and cashmere, susan gregg from modcloth...and drew barrymore and betsey johnson you guys. talk about star struck, style envy and girl crushes. the oxygen that fills these genius minds was mine to inhale and inevitably initiated an intense sense of purpose within me (as if i wasnt driven/engulfed/addicted to blogging before). among them were the big wigs of guess, sephora, gap, neiman marcus, bcbgmaxazria, conde nast, pinterest, rachel zoe, kate spade saturday and just fab. im telling you, this panel was perfectly packed. all of these influential icons were exhaling their personal experiences in the industry, the tricks to gaining exposure, the means of building a business and brand. I sat there in a sea of similar-minded fashionistas wondering what set me apart. how am i different from her over there? what do i offer that she doesnt? its a question every blogger should ask themselves because the answer is your ticket, just think of one statement that personifies your site. off the top of my head, i would say my other closet is couture is a feminine, flirty, relatable and affordable personal style site from the perspective of a creative writer hoping to inspire and be inspired on and off the page (or should i say screen?). whatever you come up with has to be unique to you, true to you. because as they say, "everyone else is taken."

***top tips: think like a marketer, let brands know youre showcasing their products, give link love, be personable and professional and easy to work with, promote the relationship once its established and remember,
"lack of passion is fatal."

for the event i went where i always tend to find myself when in need of a fashion fix, francescas collections. i paired this color-blocked lace floral textured tank with a silky chevron midi skirt. the navy/cream combo matched perfectly and the white knitted belt helped set the two similar pieces apart. of course, i had to include a pop of color and although lucky associates itself with the all-powerful red, i was smitten with this hot pink bag from the second i laid eyes on it and the necklace was already in my closet. everything else i kept neutral with gold. but, if i had to choose a favorite part, it would be the leopard kiss ring, a purchase i will undoubtedly thank myself for for posts to come. thanks again to all who voted and enabled me to attend this priceless event, i am forever indebted to you for this invaluable experience. in my next post i intend to share my favorite new blogs and freebies so that you can discover them too!
